Shockwave Therapy for Shoulder Pain and Tendonitis

Shoulder pain is the result of a strained or torn tendon

Shockwave therapy, formally known as EPAT (extracorporeal pulse activated treatment), is FDA-approved for achilles tendonitis and plantar fasciitis, pain related issues of the heel and foot. It is also indicated for acute and chronic pain associated with muscle, tendon, and/or bone. A tendon connects the muscle to bone. An inflamed tendon is an extremely common injury that is painful and can limit daily activities, sometimes as basic as walking or being able to carry groceries. Many studies have shown the benefits of shockwave therapy in healing these injuries whether they are new or longstanding.

It's safe, effective, non-invasive, does not require anesthesia, and in most cases should be the first option in treatment of shoulder pain and other tendon related disorders. One study of #shoulderpain and other tendon associated issues showed that shockwave therapy significantly reduced the pain associated with tendinopathies and significantly improved patient reported pain and quality of life. This study specifically evaluated the rotator cuff (shoulder), elbow tendonitis, achilles tendonitis, and plantar fasciitis. #Shockwave therapy is very useful in chronic injuries and can be used to help break up calcifications in chronic tendonitis and shoulder pain as well.
