Who can benefit from osteopathic manipulation?

Osteopathic principles are based in realignment and balance of the spine, muscles, and connective tissue.  Malalignment of the spine, muscle spasms, and tension in the connective tissue anywhere in the body can cause pain or can result in organ systems not working properly.  These common issues can adversely affect the nervous system as well as other organ systems. Osteopathic manipulation realigns, softens, and rebalances your tissues and bone structures to decrease pain and return your body to optimal function. Osteopathic manipulative therapy, or OMT, can even be applied in those without pain or dysfunction. Whether you're recovering from an injury, dealing with chronic pain, or simply looking to improve your overall wellness, we can help.

What. OMT is a holistic approach to healing that harnesses the body's natural ability to heal itself. Osteopaths use their hands to gently release tension, restore mobility, and correct structural imbalances. HVLA, or 'cracking', is only used when absolutely necessary. It is important to note, we are a specialty practice and recommend that everyone be established with a primary care physician for their everyday medical care.

Who. Anyone at any age, any physical status, for any problem can benefit from OMT. Treatment can help pediatric patients, pregnant or postpartum patients, athletes at any age, post-concussive issues, chronic work issues due to physical labor or desk job inactivity and ergonomics, and more. Treatments are tailored based on the physical status and needs of each individual.

Where. Treatment takes place on a training table just like trainers and massage therapists use. This is a more active treatment than massage, as you will be asked to get into various positions to assist the application of the treatment in use. We do not use percussion or distraction tables, everything is done by hand.

How.  We all have different pastimes. OMT can help keep you active by realigning the spine for optimal function. Heavy lifting, agility drills, computer use, constant cell phone usage, and more can cause pain from various movements and exertion. Results range from immediate results, more typical with new pain or injury, to needing multiple or ongoing visits for more chronic issues. It's important to note that the long-term effects of OMT can vary depending on the individual and the condition being treated.
